This is KaToi Williams with Mingleberry.com with the pleasure of interviewing Grammy nominated singer,songwriter Calvin RichardsonKaToi-How are you doing this evening?Calvin-Doing wonderful.KaToi-You are looking wonderful,wonderful,wonderful!!Calvin-Thank You, Thank YouKatoi-I had the pleasure of seeing you last night at Allure and you ripped it!You ripped it for realCalvin-For real, I appreciate it .Katoi-Good lookCalvin-Was just having funKatoiWe had a ball, let me tell you, it has been the talk of Charlotte NC all day long .. All day!Calvin-That’s what it isKaToi-So tell us about your highly anticipated album that is coming out, or that is already out.Calvin-It’s actually coming out May 27thKaToi-May 27th everybody remember that day May 27th yes,yesCalvin-May 27 th 5 days and count downKaToi- So tell us about your albumCalvin-Well the album is called ” When Love Comes”It was written and produced by myself.,it’s just another pole that I threw in the fire,it’s just me doing my thing .It’s on some real soulful stuff and me dealing with some issues I was going through for last couple of years. I always write about stuff that I am going through.KaToi-That’s that real musicCalvin-That’s that real soulful music,Shana-Life experiencesCalvin-So this time I have some up-tempo records normally I don’t do, that can spin in the club Calvin Richardson ain’t never been in the club like that. I kinda stayed out of the club, I didn’t make any club record so, but I did a mix tape this time I have about four songs like that.KaToi- Pretty much your life experiences is what inspired you?Calvin-Like I said dealing with love and when love comes, just life in a nut shell.It’s an Urban romance ,from not being in a relationship for awhile and then finding love.KaToi-That’s the best kind of music …life experiencesKatoi-How did you come up with the title for the album “When Love Comes”Calvin-”When Love Comes “is about an urban romance in sequence from the time I meet this young lady ,and getting her number and hooking up.KaToi-You didn’t get that dananana(disconnect tone) LaughterCalvin-Naw I have been pretty fortunate didn’t get that .So it’s a time line from the time we meet and getting real cool and starting a relationship and then the drama…..Shana-Yeah the drama always has to come inCalvin-You know the reality of any relationship ,you gonna have drama..you know what I mean .Then us getting back together and having a kid and the being seperated.KaToi
-Yeah ..I like that song where you talk about “I need no child support because I got him “Calvin-Yeah I got him…Yeah my # 1 thing is when love comes you have to embrace it.When you fall in love with someone and it’s real and that person really loves you .You can break up and do whatever you want to do ,but if that person really loves you they are always gonna have your best interest at heart. You know what I mean….KaToi-Now every hot song has to have a remix..so your gonna have Wezzy on it right? (Laughter)Calvin-Already working with Wezzy …KaToi-So do you have a remix?Calvin-Naw not on this one, but we are working on something for this one…KaToi-Now let me say that I was in ahhh last night when I saw you and KC performing together.Because the chemistry you to have is amazing.Have you ever collaborated on a song with KC?Calvin-Of course KC was on my first album the song (Country Boy) that was KC and me.So you know me and KC grew up together. We were in a gospel group, before Jodeci before all of that it was me ,KC and Jo Jo .So you know the chemistry will never leave and that’s what’sup….
KaToi-Who is the person you would love to work with going forward?Calvin-I would love to work with R.Kelly .I have been a fan of his music for a long time .He is a real prolific guy and I think a lot of stuff he does is very creative. However sometimes he repeats himself and it will sound like something else he has done. Then he will write some different lyrics and flip it and come out with something real dope.He is real lyrical and so am I . So I would love to work with him and see where we can go with it.KaToi- Yeah..he is a chamaeleon he can adapt to whatever is going on at the time and write about it..Calvin-And I feel thatKaToi-That’s what’s up, You have been compared to such great artist as Marvin Gay and Sam Cooke, how does that make you feel?Calvin-Only word I can think of is humble, you know what I mean. Those are great guys and I want to be remembered as one of the greats. That’s why I don’t steer to far f rom my roots,my sound what I do.I just stay true to it ,I wanna leave my mark just how they left theirs.KaToi-That’s what’s up, Now you know I cant end this interview without asking you, Do you have a special lady in you life?All the QC ladies want to know .Calvin-Naw…listen to my album from the beginning of my relationship till when it ended .To me having to say child support is not going to be an issue…you know what I mean…KaToi-So ladies he has no women….
